The Temptation Of Power!

“What makes the temptation of power so seemingly irresistible? Maybe it is that power offers an easy substitute for the hard task of love. It seems easier to be God than to love God, easier to control people than to love people, easier to own life than to love life.” – (Henri Nouwen, In the Name of Jesus, 1989)

What does this speak to you?

One Response to “The Temptation Of Power!”

  1. OOOOOHHHH…..that is GOOD!!! My thoughts: I think that the temptation of power is, like most other temptations, very deceptive. We are deceived by what we think power gives us or does for us. Power makes us “feel” safe, secure, in control. Love on the other hand is totally opposite of that. Love makes us “feel” vulnerable and therefore, unsafe and insecure. We are deceived about what real love is too. (I keep writing “we” but I’m speaking of my own experience mostly). Once we open up & let ourselves love beyond all the lines of vulnerability then we finally see that, while it’s uncomfortable to step out into the risky seas of real love, when you start walking on the water…well then you are really living. Hope that makes some sort of sense. 🙂
